| Course Description |
User interfaces define how humans interact with technologies. Developing intuitive, logical, and useful systems involves good user interface design. In this course, students learn to apply a user-centered design process to design, build, and evaluate user interfaces. Students engage in an end-to-end iterative design process involving needfinding, storyboarding, low-fidelity prototyping, technical implementation of web applications, and user testing. Through applying best practices in usability alongside principles of visual design, students develop a novel system addressing a specific user need through a semester-long group project. The course supports students developing an understanding of when different prototyping techniques are more appropriate and how to translate ideas into functioning, usable applications. Prerequisite: COMS BC1014 Introduction to Computer Programming in Java or another college-level introductory programming course. Students cannot receive credit for this course and COMS W4170. |
